On the morning of September 26, Huang Xin, Secretary of the Party Committee, delivered a profound speech at the beginning of the school year in a lecture hall for the freshmen of 2025 enrollment, under the title of "Be Young, Be Ambitious". All freshmen participate in the study on site or through live stream.
    Huang Xin explained the excellent traditional culture and history of Xiangtan to students, focusing on the revolutionary history, folk culture, and industrial background. He hopes that students will take root in the hometown of great people, nourish the soul with humanities, and forge faith with our glorious history. From the unwavering history of running the school, the development path of striving for excellence, and the spiritual accumulation of "persevering and daring to be the first", he depicts the history and wonderful chapter of our school's 74 years of moving forward. He hopes that students will inherit the original mission of the school to "work for the country", be pragmatic and seek truth, and work hard.

    Huang Xin elaborates on the major mission of promoting educational development, scientific and technological innovation and talent cultivation, focusing on the goal of "building our school into a first-class application-oriented engineering university with distinctive characteristics and outstanding contributions". He underlines the three parts in detail, "creating distinctive characteristics", "making outstanding contributions", "striving to create a first-class university", pointing out the direction of how to pool the strength of HIE on the new journey and compose a new chapter of high-quality development.

    Huang Xin put forward four expectations for the freshmen of 2025 enrollment. First, "To learn", be self-motivated and responsible. Second, "To love" and hold great love, great virtue and great feelings. Third, "To do things" with excellent ability. Fourth, "To be self-disciplined" and be optimistic. He encouraged students to be the hard-working dreamers of the era, enjoy the best youth at the best age, achieve great in their golden times.

    This lecture has aroused a wide resonance among the students. Yuan Chenhan, a student of 2025 enrollment majoring in artificial intelligence, said, "I will adhere to the spirit of the school motto of 'perseverance and dare to be the first', stick to my original intention and study hard." Students have expressed that they should turn their perception into action and write a glorious chapter of youth with the attitude of struggle.
